Gurugram: 3.34 lakh children to be vaccinated for polio
GURUGRAM: A three-day long intensified pulse polio immunisation drive
was launched in the district on Sunday, under which 3,34,065 children
are expected to be vaccinated. The immunization day will be conducted in
13 districts of Haryana, including Gurgaon.
Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar kick-started the drive at Gurgaon. The drive will continue till July 4, during which children of ages between 0-5 years will be given polio drops. Khattar gave drops to three kids — Arpit, Lakshya and Pari — at the General Hospital in Civil Lines. Besides Gurgaon, the drive is being conducted in Palwal, Faridabad, Mewat, Rohtak, Sonipat, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Ambala, Panchkula, Jhajjar and Yamunanagar.

In Gurgaon, 1,258 booths have been set up for the programme. Notably, children in the prescribed age group can get repeated doses too, even if they were vaccinated for pulse polio recently.

On Sunday, activity was mostly restricted to the booths, while Monday and Tuesday have been kept for door-to-door. For this, 109 mobile teams have been formed with 254 supervisors.

"These teams will target migrants and slum areas, and will ensure all
children are given polio drops. Notably, Haryana was declared polio-free
in March 2014. However, with a large migrant population, the health
department is very cautious the virus should not re-appear. Therefore,
areas with high density of labourers will be especially screened," said
Dr B K Rajora, chief medical officer, Gurgaon.
